My work is created with the idea that hand-made objects reinforce the importance of individuality, creativity and self-expression through its design, function and interaction.  The decision to use a one of a kind functional work; committing to engage with its uniqueness and individuality, brings meaningful layers of experience to the user and contributes to their quality of life.

The work is motivated in response to the proliferation of mass-produced objects that saturate our daily lives and is driven by my ability to create one-of-a-kind functional work inspired by compositions of disparate elements found in the natural world.  Intersections such as bracket fungus and moss, streams and leaves, and flowers growing out of rocks are referenced in my forms and through my surface treatment.

My forms rely upon the interaction between the object, its function and the sensory experience of the user. This visceral experience of physical touch, coupled with the relationship between seeing and feeling heighten the layered knowledge gained through the accumulated use.

The intersecting layers of surface and form, variations in surface depth and use of graphic elements are brought together in compositions that are metaphoric of the vastly layered experiences of daily life. The final product culminates in providing an experience that is like the everyday; unique and participatory with objects providing a platform for meaningful exchanges, drawing analogies between ecosystems found in nature and the “ecosystem” of the home.
